9th Conference of the International Association for the Study of Biblical and Semitic Rhetoric (RBS)

Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome

26 – 28 September 2024

The International Association for the Study of Biblical and Semitic Rhetoric presents its Biennial Conference, to be held at the Pontifical Gregorian University (Central Palace: Room C 209) from 26 to 28 September 2024.

The main interventions will concern the Bible: 9 interventions on the New Testament and 2 on the Old. The other numerous contributions will concern the Qur’an, but also texts from the pre-Islamic and Persian periods, and even the Egyptian Pharaonic period. One intervention will embrace the study of the composition of the Kaddish in its different forms, one will deal with circular compositions and numerological principles in classical Chinese literature, and one, finally, will explore chapters 53 and 56 of the Rule of St. Benedict.

A magisterial lecture will open and close the Conference: Michel Cuypers, who was the first to use Semitic Rhetorical Analysis in the study of the composition of the Qur’an, and Roland Meynet with a memoir on the discovery of the methodology.

The speakers at the Conference come from no less than 10 different countries: many are university professors, but this year some PhD students and independent researchers are also participating with their proposals.

Registration will remain open until 23 September 2024. Download the registration form here (below):
